OBITI’ARY Kenneth B. Martin (familiarly known as Dick) was horn in Clinton township near Morton May 28, 1920. He lived his entire life in,Parke and Pulnaii) counties, up until hi’ entered ser vice for his country Dec. 29 194-1. He took his training fit Camp Roberts in California and sailed for Australia April 22. 1942. Ho left Australia sometime in September for New Guinea as a member of 126th Infantry under Commanding OffiI Cer Joseph S. Bradley and Lieut- | cnant Wilber C. Lyttle, was la-d j heard from Nov. 18, 1942. On Jan. 25, 1943 his mother and I lather received a telegram stating he was killed in action Nov i 26. 1942. He was the first Put- ! uam county boy killed in service. A letter was received from his lieutenant saying a military and religious service was held at his I grave on Dec. 7. 1942, which was 1 properly marked in New Guinea The Order of the Purple Heart i and an award for outstanding ; bravery was received by the pai - I cuts. , He is survived by bis parents, [ Oscar and Helen Martin, of Clinton township, Putnam county; four brothers. Donald. James and Oscar, Jr., of Indianapolis and j lohn of Putnam county; three sisters. Dorothy McCullough of Darby. Montana, Imogene Crawley of Indianapolis and Wilma | Cruse of Putnam county. Kenneth lived among us 22 i year, five months and 29 days - Ho was very devoted to hi.mother and steadfast to hi many friends. Of a jovial courageous disposition, with a grim determination to do what he felt was right.
