“The National Education League in 1902 realized that music was important in the schools and recommended as a minimum program more music than is now being offered here,” he said. “These children are being cheated by an antiquated program," he added. Sawyer said he quit leading the band and would become a salesman for an Indianapolis sales distribution company.

Appointed to the state textbook commission were Jesse M Boston, Sullivan county school superintendent, who replaces Harry Yoder of Columbia City, R. B. Linville, principal of Wash ington elementary school at La layette, who replaces Charles Englehart of Seymour, and Prof Curtis D. Kirklin, Franklin College, who was reappointed. President Ralph N. Tirey of Indiana State Teachers College at Terre Haute was reappointed to the state teacher training and licensing commission, and two new members were named. They were R. E. Hood, Oxford high school principal, replacing H. B. Allman of Indiana University, and Myron D. Weldy, principal of Perlcy elementary school at South Bend, replacing Edith Spray of South Bend.
