along the line of conservatiot will be greatly stepped up. Tile pheasants, all about one rear old. were released by Conicrvation officers and attaches of the Jasper-Pulaski game farm ind farm and preserve, assisted by Mr. iFiritohett. Seventy-two birds were alloted o each county in which the disribution took place, five hens ind one male being released from ach box. Further distribution of pheas ints will take place in many ad iitional counties as soon as that icasure seems fessible, Gettinglam explained. Counties in which releases vere made are Lake, Porter Taint, Joseph, Elkhart, La grange, Stueben, Jasper, Newton. Ttark, Marshall, Kosciusko Voble, DcKalb. Benton, White ^ass, Miami, Wabash, Hunting ton. Wells, Ada ns, Tippecanoe Carroll, Howard, Pulaski, Fulton Allen, Whitley, Laporte and Warren. In addition to the distribution idult pheasants. It was furthei lisclosed by officials of the fish md game division that plans ar ■ being carried out by means (if which pheasants and quail chick will be distributed to all Indiana conservation organizations regis tered with the Conservation Department. Distribution of day old pheasant chick will begin May 10, on which date the first setting of 4.000 eggs with hatch The department figures that of the original settings 70% will be available for distribution. Hatcning takes place at the end of a twenty-five day period in the case of pheasant chicks. The department has set the eggs at two day intervals thereby making approximately 70% of each 4,000 chicks hatched available even’ other day during the season. In the matter of quail chicks, the hatchibility rate is much higher allowing a possible 90': of 6.400 quail egg settings to be delivered to various conservation organizations. Delivery of quail chicks will be on the same staggered basis as pheasants. Through an act of the Legislature Department of Conservation will be enabled to purchase quail from Indiana licensed game breeders. This expenditure can be extended to include the purchase of quail raised by conservation organizations in club brooders. The division will furnish day old chicks in June or July, 120 per brooder with a two brooder limit per club, under the same program and contract as now exists, and then pay the club, $1.50 per quail for those birds raised and held for delivery to the division by April 1 to 15 of the year following the chick distribution. To provide a maximum spread of participation among organizations a limit payment of $100 per club would provide a distribution to 150 organizations, if all pr'duccd and held a sufficient amount of quail to qualify for the maximum payment of $100. This would assure the liberation of rt least 10,000 quail at the start of the breeding and nesting season. Before selling the quail to the division each organization participating would buy a game breeders' license at a cost of $5 which would qualify them to sell and at the same time comply

with the lam. Thc«new activity, explained Mr. Cottingham. is intended as conservation program in which various organizations can tak; an active part in re-stocking at a time when the quail would have the best chance of survival and reproduction.
