British Warship Fires At Reds

NANKING, April 20.—(UP) — Th,. British destroyer Consort battled shore batteries along the Yangtze river east of Nanking today while racing to assist the British sloop Amethyst, grounded ami suffering “heavy casualties” from a similar attack. The artillery fire against the two British warships was presumed to have come from Communist forces poised along the north bank of the Yangtze between Nanking and Shanghai.
