sponsible,” Mr. Grimes said. “If in are to accept without quesion this idea of responsibility, who is to judge when you are irresponsible? How does he know •vhat is irresponsible." Mr. Grimes noted that there D me press in the world that is •Imost a hundred percent responiblc, the press of Russia. There ‘no editor is irresponsible more han once,” he commented. If newspapers in this country i>e falling short of their responsibilities as alleged, Mr. Grime? suggested it was because some if them lost sight of the “simplmd fundamental reason” why they exist. That is the real responsibility >f the press, the DePauw group, was told, and living up to that s the press’ best defense against criticism from government and -ither outside sources. ‘‘It is impossible to have an inti lligcnt community made up of badly informed citizens, so it is impossible to have a strong nation made up of indifferent and badly informed cqmmunities,” he editor sahi. “1‘raise the question whether newspapers are not neglecting their community duties those that lie at theii door.”

Mr. and Mrs. Sims Entertained Sunday Mr. and Mrs. George Sims entertained with a dinner Sunday in honor of Captain Marvin Sims, wife and son who have returned from Alaska. Capt. Sims has been stationed in Alaska for the past 2 1-2 years and is now transferred to El Paso, Texas. The dinner was also for Mrs. Freida Finney and daughter of Columbia, Misosuri and for Captain Geneva Sims who is now stationed at Chanute Field, Ill. with the Army Air Corp. ASK U. S. FOR ARMS treaty. He said the program will be sent to Congress when finally worked out soon. Unofficially, it has been estimated that $1,800,000,000 and that has aroused the opposition of many congressmen who will decide whether to authorize and put up the money for such a program. The eight nations pleaded they could not, on their way, afford to raise the arms necessary to prevent aggression in Europe without, in effect, disrupting their economies. But each promised, in accord with the new North Atlantic Treaty, to extend “reciprocal as. sistance" as can be expected "consistent with its resources and geographic location.” The significance in that is that in Norway's case she has a common border in the North vith Russia. Greenland is a Danish possession on which the United States established strategic bases in the last war. FIRE PROVED FATAL
