27— (INS) — iFTofessor J. R. Wiley, head of the department of animal husbandry at Purdue University, today estimated a 13 per cent increase in the size of
the 1949 spring pig crop.
Prof. Wiley, who attended a nation-wide two-day conferenct of agriculture experts at Chi cago, said a 15 percent increase in total feed supplies over las’ tend to indicate a moderate increase in livestock and poultry production during the -next year.
Prof. Wiley is a member of 3
21-man survey committee whic? conducted the analysis of thr
feed and livestock situation.
Besides the increased pig pro-
state duction. the Purdue expert and
other members of the committee forecast a 16 per cent increase in the number of chickens raised for replacement stock; a six per cent increase in commercial broiler production, and a 15 per cent increase in the turkey crop. Prof Wiley and others on the survey committee expect dairy cow numbers to remain fairly constant with heavier feeding resulting in slightly higher average production per cow. Fewer beef cattle and reduced sheep
