Well, let me tell you, here and now, that I don't advise anybody to go about marrying the way I did. Pretty nearly everything in connection with my marriage was completely unorthodox and would probably not work out in one case out of a, thousand. In the first place, I knew fifteen minutes after I met her that that particular person was the one for me. In the second place, I am quite sure that she knew just as well that she did not want me. I We seemed to disagree about almost everything urder the sun, and our tastes and temperaments were exactly opposite. But, with mo it was definitely love at first sight.

Then came a very nasty morning. It was raining eats and dogs, there wasn’t a ray of sunshine in the offing and I felt mise.rable . So I called up this particular person and asked her to meet me a.t the qj^plfll. at I? sC c >.« k , sharp. She was working and so was I, so I told her to make it snappy, as I had only one hour for lunch and I knew she had to go back to her job. She said, all right, she’d meet me. "By the way, what do you want to meet me for way down at the City Ha,11?" she asked. "You’ll find out," I said, and wc hung up. I borrowed $2 from my friend John Medbury, and took the subway down to the City Hall. I got there just about five minutes to twelve, rushed to the Clerk's office and got a license. (It was easy in those days.) The certain person got there about five minutes after twelve and by that time everybody in the City Hall had gone to lunch. So I told ner we’d have to wait, as we needed two vUtnesses to get married. ( ‘Get married?" she said. "Yes, what’s wrong with that?” "Nothing. I guess.” At twelve-thirty the Clerk’s clerks got back. He asked two of them to act as witnesses. We raise) our hands and swore to love, honor and obey. That’s how I proposed ajmost 26 years ago.

ABANDON SUIT ST. LOUIS, Sept. 22.—(UP) — Archbishop Joseph E. Ritter’s threat of excommunication today forced 700 Roman Catholics to abandon their injunction suit to have Negroes banned from parochial schools.
