Both sexes of the Barren Ground caribou have horns, in which they differ from other members of the deer family. The horns of the female are shorter than those of the male, however. * * * Florida, Cuba and the Bahamas are the three greatest sponge-producing areas in the world. • V • Assault comes from the Latin "saltare,” to jump or leap.

kxrm ei.ectkk itx Faimers who change to eloCric brooders just about need to , learn all over again how to brood I chicks. One difference is that only the space ‘Under the hover is heated; therefore, the feeders and waterers are placed urr-lemcnth the hover at first. Pint fruit jar fountains will work under most any hover. Feed may be sprinkled on paper plates or on new egg case cup flats. Chicks will need to be trained to cenae from under the cover for feed and go back for warmth. A chick guard placed not more than 18 inches from the hover is Vt as essential with electric hovers as with other brooders. Lifting the hover several times a day will allow the chicks to scamper about and give the poultrynwn a chance to spot any chicks that are decidedly lacking in pep. This also allows for adjustments in feeders and waterers. Chicks will need to learn to find their way back under the hover for warmth when the latter is lowered. One help in teaching chicks to return to the brooder is to leave a light burning under the hover, but no light side. Another idea use! by operators is to place a feeder half way under the hovrr, which encourages trips in and
out.
Attention is called to the common, problem of moisture with the electric brooders. The cool air in a h.'-rjse with this type of brooder cannot hold as much moisture as will warmer air;
material or the chickens will eat
holes in most insulating boards. I n Vivj,, ^ A de:p litter, three inches or er njid "''’"'"l more, will help insulate the passed ^ floor. A layer of building paper .Marc), 7*!^ fl8 ’ may be placed underneath the Watson ^
