many r,f the nations fire prevention experts. The Christ nas tree contains natural resins ignite easily and bum rapidly. Wien, decked out with such Inflammable decorations as cottcn and paper, Christmas trees present a first class jre hazard. A spark from an electric cord, a toy train, or a careless smoker may cause a disastrous fire. Cognizant of the danger, the New York City Fire Department lias banned natural Christmas t.-eos this year from all public places, except churches. The National Hoard of Fire Underwriters has issued a special bulletin on how to prevent Christmas tree fires. It emphasizes the fact that u small tree can be just as beautiful as. but less hazardous than, a big tree. Here are the suggestions: 1. Keep the tree outdoors until ready to install it. Place the tree in the coolest part of the house away from radiators and heaters. If necessary, shut off the radiator near the tree. 2. Under no circumstances usa cott-'n or paper for decoration of the tree or around the tree. Cottor will ignite from the slightest spark and flames will envelop the tree. ¥ 3. Do not place electric trains

regularly to see whether any needles near the lights have started to turn brown. If »o, change the location of the lights. 4. When the ner-dles start falling take the tree down and discard it. If you want to keep the tree up for a few dnyskmger, then do not keep the tree lighted for more than half an hour

at a time.

5. If any decorations are used about the house, do not permit them near chairs or other places where people n-av smoke. Keep them up near the ceiling, well above the head of anyone standing up. If lights are desired in windows never use candles. Keep curtains and other flammable, material pulled back at least six Inches from any light. The Underwriters also state that in hotels, churches, hospitals or in hallways of offices, the laeation of the tree itshe most important factor. It should not be placed near any stairway or elevator shaft which would pmvide an upward draft. It should not be near entrance floors or otherwise blocking exits. In 1945, United States agriculture produced more than S20 - 000,000.000 worth of cash receipts for farmers.
