Erich Brandeis’ Has a man’s second wife a ii^lit to be buried in the family lot and to have her name insenV ed on tlie family gravestone? That question has just been decided in the Rhode Island Superior Court and the answer .s

yes.

The sons by the first wife of- ! posed their stepmother’s banal in the family plot, out of "speeial reverence for their real mother,” and brought sidt against their

) father.

The judge decided that -‘a previous wife in np way lowtred the s tatus ot a second ,u third or a lourtli wife,” and that she ha.d the same right which the first wife possessed at law. This particular lawsuit has been dragging along for months. It has cost time and a considerable amount of money, and all that it has accomplished is to increase the bitterness already existing between the litigants. In one period of my newspaper reporting days I had to cover the courts. Day alter day 1 sat in the various courtrooms and listened to the bickerings and id-guings of lawyers, plaintiffs and defendants. Some of the suits were important, but most of them were so petty and so insignificant that they would have been comical if they had not been such a sad r*tlection upon human nature. No court case I ever attended ( ver really settled a dispute, and no decision rendered by a judge was ever satisfactory. The side that lost always shouted crookedness or injustice and left the courtroom planning
