foreman was held but indicated he had been removed from the county jail at Welch for his own protection. Parsons said murder charges would be filed against Curry today for shooting Roosevelt Thomas, 45, Bottom Creek, ana William Hunt, a Negro, of Eckman. They were killed during an argument with Curry, foreman of a small wagon mine, in front of tile general store at nearby Eckman.

LOCAL PLAYERS WIN AND LOSE THURSDAY

The Greencastle high school freshmen defeated the Bainbridge first year basketball team, 24 to 10, in a game played up on the Bainbrulge floor shortly after noon Thursday. The two quintets were evenly matched during the first half with Greencastle leading by only one point, 7 to 6. at the rest intermission. I discussing the strike in front of change came about on the Poin-

the general store when Curry j and F. J. Linkous drove up with a truckload of coal. Thomas and Hunt went over to the truck to talk with Curry, presumably about the operation of his mine. The mine had worked that day but Curry had told the night shift not to report for duty. An argument followed and two shots were fired, Parsons said. Hunt was killed instantly. Thomas staggered up the street about 75 feet before he collapsed and died. Curry told Chief of Police Harry Cyphers that the two men had attempted to drag him from the cab of his truck. Cyphers took him into custody immediately and turned him over to county authorities at Welch.
