«•( i< u.akm niu: PHILADELPHIA. Nov. 7. (UPi A four-alarm fliv swept the waterfront near the Camd m Kerry station tisiay destroying three brick warehouses and tausine damages estimated at several hundred thousands of dollars. j More than 200 firemen con-J fined the blaze to two wooden crate and basket storage build ings of M. Bercovitz A- Co., and the wool-waste warehouse of Fowles and Co. It was declared i under control after four hours, although Deputy Chief Engineer \\ illiam Simmler said the crates and barrels in the Bercovitz building would smoulder / for
hours.
Hoseman David Howard. 30, escaped death when a four-stoiy 'high wail collapsed as he neared i the top of a 65-foot ladder. How- ; trd was caught in a rope of the ladder extension, which broke ! his fall. The 50-foot section of | wall collapsed in 15-second inter ' vals, crushing a ladder truck placed at its base. Firemen fought the blaze from iearby buildings, and hose lm< were run from the fireboat Hampton Moore, anchored near the ferry slips. Smoke covered the waterfront for blocks.
