Two Slayers Escape Jail

WASHINGTON. April 3 — (lH.') Two convicted slayers awaited execution, overpowered two guards in the District of Columbia jail ■•nrly today, locked them in, their death i*nv cells and then escaped clad in their vic.ims’ police uniforms. The prisoners were Joseph Medley, 44 convicted of slaying Mrs. Nancy Boyer. 45, and Far! B. McFarland. 22 year old exmarine who was convicted of the rape-murder of Dorothy Berninis, 18-y ear-old government employe. Police said the escape occured about 5:10 A. M. They said Medley overpowered Guard H. C. Davis with a .38 calibre revolver when the policeman made his regular half hour morning check. Medley then called another guard. D. C. Sanderlin. The two prisoners overpowered Sanderlin and took his cell keys. Police said the revolver obviously had been smnggled in to the prisoners btii th y had no idea when or how. A folicc cmdon was thrown about all highways leading ou‘ of Washington as soon as the escape was discovered. It was believed, however, that the prisoners still might be wandering around the Washington area in th"ir stolen police uniforms.

■ft That the cost ot medical care has risen, no one can deny. Hut the rise has not been out of proportion to the general advance in the cost of living. At the same time the quality of medical service has been immeasurably improved. Consider that today your physician has invested from eight to ten years and about ten thousand dollars in his education alone. He hasnochtnal to earn until he is twenty-six or twenty-seven years olL| He must have an office in a good neighborhood, gool| equipment, a car, good clothes. Pharmacy, too, has stepped up its standards. Alitoi I every state now requires four years of college and a jh or two of practice before registration. All this addsap#l better medical service for you.
