The new Lincoln soybean, re-

| leased by cornbelt experiment stations for extensive planting in ! 1945, produe d the highest yield ever recorded in th official soybean yield contest of the Ind<ana Corn Growers Association, it was announced today by K. E. Beeson IFurdue University exten- | sion agronomist. Eugene Kwaltney, Delaware. Co., grew a bumper crop of 52 bushels per acre of this variety to lead all 1945 ; contestants thereby wining the highest medal award and the 19-

!45 Roy Caldwell trophy.

I The Lincoln was used by 38 of the 43 contestants who won gold medals with a production of 40 1 or more bushels per acre, thus justifyiny thc faith of experiment station workers in its superior yielding ability. It replaced the popular Richland, cxI tensively used in past contests. However, the Richland, grown by Floyd Anderson of Shelby county I produced a yield of 50 bushels per acre, thc highest recorded in

the'contest with this variety. Southern Indiana glowers us-

ed the Gibson and Chief varieties which are better adapted to the full growing season of that section than, the earlier Lincoln, but thc Lincoln was used by more than 100 contestants in tho 33 counties comp/ting for tho

State championship.

High yield honors were divided among farmers in eight counties, all of whom produced more than 47 bushels per acre. Closely pressing Mr. Gwaltney for top honors was Allan Ansoa Huntington, with a yield of 51 bushels. Lewis Withrow and his daughter. Barbara, Tippecanoe county, with a yield of 50.1 bushels: Paul Preiser of Cass county, 50.1 bushels; Floy Anderson of. Shelby county. 50 bushels; Robert Stanley, Union
