Speaking of his second prin ciple, Dr. Jome pointed out that all truth is simple, but finding

the formula often takes years and years of reasearch. Will Rogers and Ernie Pyle, he sa d, are examples of the embodyment of simplicity itself. "Knowledge is not national," the speaker continued, discussing his third principle. “One of the tragic things about war is that it cuts the international veins of science and learning." DR. JOME SPEAKS ,"In a dynamic world full of problems, many of which we cannot solve at all but merely ameliorate, it is important to have principles,” Dr. Hiram I Jome, head of the economics department at DePauw University, told seniors in the annual "cap and gown" chapel Wednesday. Po.nting out that the present senior class at DePauw has been in college during the four most trying years in our history, Dr. 1 Jome said that when events come so swiftly as they have, it is difficult to keep one's per* j sp. clive and to keep forging , ahead. He outlined the progress { of the war from 1941, when the present class was entering college, to the present time, when Nazi Germany has been defeated and the Japanese are falling back before our Pacific onslaught. The three important principles in life, according to the speaker, are; (1) To maintain an attitude of intellectual curiosity and to keep alive the spirit of research; (2) To put first th.ngs first; and (3) To keep ones balance and maintain a sense of continuity.
