AN ADVANCED A AF AIR TRANSPORT COMMAND BASE IN THE MARIANAS, May 24.—Capt. John R. Showalter, Jr., 1942 graduate of Washington University School ol Medicine, St. Louis, Mo., is one of five flight surgeons who supervised the evacuation of 1250 casualties from Okinawa last month by the Air Transport Command. Some of the evacuees are tinloaded here in litters, still wearing the field dressings applied by corpsmen not many hours befoio on the front lines. ATC’s Pucitic Division handles about 8000 casualties monthly and is prepared to move 12,000 if need be. Captain Showalter took his pre-medical course at DePauw University, Greencastle, Ind., where he was in the class of 1938.
