Clifton Wayne Priest of the U. S. N. R., who Is in the Philippines: Dearest Mother, As it has been some time Since I’ve written and I’ve now found some time I’ll try and write a few lines. I also haven’t received any mail for some time and don’t know when I will. I guess you read in the papers and heard on the radio of the invasion of the Philippines. We are now permittea to say that we took part in the Invasion of Leyte and participated in the eea battle against a Jap task force in the Lurigas Straits. I’m sure glad to be able to say I came through without a scratch. At the present I’m feeling and getting along fine and I hope this finds all of you the same. To tell the truth I spent an exciting birthday this year and It won’t be an easy one to forget. Say hello to every one for me as I haven’t much time to write
everyone, can.
but I’ll write when I
Ask dad is he knows Laurence Miller who used to work in the post office. Anyway I met him about three weak* ago and we had a long talk about home (Qreencastle). As he had only been in the navy a few months he told me things that happened since I was home He’s now working in a post office out here and got in touch with me by aeeing my war ballot. He’s also the first person I’ve met from home since i enlisted and that’s something. Haven’t much else to say at the present so I’ll close. • Your loving son, Wayne.
