attempting to reinforce the doomed Japanese garrison on Leyte. 4.—Vice Admiral Marc A. Mitscher, commander of the famous Task Force 58, said the U. S. Navy has shot down more than 4.000 Japanese naval planes in the past year and a half and had “practically eliminated Jappnese naval aviation.” An official Domei dispatch broadcast from Tokyo said parachuting fliers would be “killed on the spot by angry Japanese people” and denounced B-29 crewmen as “savages and Albino apes.” Another Tokyo propagandist charged In a broadcast for American consumption that B-29 crews were not entitled to the nrotection of international law and added that "the day of reckoning will surely come.” Other Tokyo broadcasts recorded by the FCC told of the discovery of the bodies of American fliers shot down in the Nov. 21 raid on Nagasaki and Omura on Kyushu Island. Had they not already been dead, the broadcasts said, residents of nearby Konagai village would have met the fliers “with a Japanese sword” or a “hunting i ifle.” JUDGE STRICKEN (ContlniHMl from Piim* One) Chief Prosecutor O.
