AFTER a number of first aid men had been killed by German fire while attempting to evacuate 44 badly wounded IT. S. infantrymen isolated in a snow-swept ravine, Maj. Albert L>. Bcrndt of Portsmouth, Q., above, walked through German shellfire and across a Ger-man-held bridge to demand face-to-face that the Nazis hold their fire while ambulances evacuated the wounded. The Germans then acceded to his demands. This photo of Major Berndt was made several years ago when he was an intern at Philadelphia General hospital. (International}

SPORTS Tigers Host To Miami Saturday The DePauw University Tigers, with two wins in their two home games this season, will try for a third Saturday when they wall be host!- to the Redskins of Miami University, Oxford. Ohio. This will be the second game of the season with DePauw for the undefeated Miami gridmen. The Miami team has not had a loss in eight games this season, and most of their scores have contained good winning margins. Probably their toughest battle to date has been with the DePauw team, when on Octobei 14 the Tigers held the battling Reoakins to a 12-0 victory. DePauw’s 0-to-6 victory over Illinois Wesleyan two weeks ago and their 6-to-0 defeat of Obetlin in last Saturday's homecoming game give Tiger fans something to hope for i.i next Saturday’s encounter. Coach Raymond (Gaumy) Neal has worked new men into the Tiger line and backfield to advantage, as Saturday’s game indicated, and it is expected that DePauw will do a go/•! holding job. The DePauw team will also have the best possible spirit as they attempt to avenge their earlier loss to Miami. Saturday's game will mark the close of DePauw’s grid season, with two wins and five losses chalked up thus far for the veteran-starved team. Bowling Schedule Tonight Oi.lO p. m. Midwest vs. V. F.
