ATTENTION TRUCKERS
On or about October 15, truckers in need of supplimental gasoline rations to finish their quarterly operations will go direct to their OP A ration boards for the gasoline rather than first clearing with the Office of Defense Transportation as in live past. All new quarterly commercial rations, however, or changes in present over-all rations hiust still be certified by ODT. This new policy, which is nation-wide, will result in staff reductions throughout the Chicago region of seven midwestern states of approximately 27 per cent The change will permit ODT managers and specialists to spend their
time on truck and transportation matters rather than on rationing. The number of trucks, busses ami tanks that are down for lack of tires 8.25 and larger is growing at a startling [taco. Chicago Region 5, which embraces seven middl-west stati s and parts of four others, showed a total of 2,654 vehicles down for this reason for the week ending September 2. TIPs figure broken discloses 2,357 trucks dowi;\ 67 buses and 230 tanks. The total over-all national figure for the same week showed 5,913 vehicles down for lack of heavy-duty tires.
