DOWN EAST SEA CAPTAIN WAS COAST GUARD FATHER LUBEC, Me. (UP) This Down 3ast seaport takes more than routine interest in the United States Coast Guard’s observance of its 154th year. In a grassy little cemetery not far from his old home lies buried Cnpt. Hopley T. Yeaton, the “father” of the nation’s smallest armed force. Capt. Yeaton was commissioned in 1790 by President George Washington and became the first master of the United States Revenue Cutter Service, the forerunner of the Coast Guard. His regular tour was aloj-g the Maine coast from Kittery to Calais.
