Offical figures from the Department of Agriculture place total cotton acreage In the state at 7,.'126.000 acres—a seven per cent drop from last year. The greatest Texas cotton crop was 18.443,000 in 1923. Dry weather during the planting reason was blamed for the slump.

Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Heavin of this city are the parents of a son born Tuesday morning at the Putnam county hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Riley and daughter, Caroline Ruth, of Martinsville, spent the weekend visiting Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Riley Miss Cordelia Skelton of Roachdale was admitted to the Putnam* county hospital Tuesday for treatment due to a fractured hip. SAN ANTONIO AVIATION CADET CENTER, TEX,—Members of the third class to complete training at the Army Air E’orces Officer Candidate School of the San Antonio Aviation Cadet Center have been commissioned second lieutenants in brief ceremonies held at the Cadet Center. Completion of the rigorous fourmonth course qualifies the men to 1111 positions as administrative officers with the Army Air Forces Training includes instruction in military courtesy and discipline, small arms, military law, camouflage, and ? multitude of other subjects.
