WASHINGTON, March 7.—(UPj • Son. Theodore N Green, D., R I., said today there was a good possibility that Senate and House conferees would itach final agreement on the soldier vote bill before nightfall to bt ing an end to almost a month of debate. Advocates of a state ballot wete expected to agree to a last minute amendment under which the federal ballot, restricted now only to overseas troops, could be used within the United States by servicemen whose states do not have absentee ballots — namely, Kentucky and New Mexico. Sen. Catl A. Hatch. D., N. M., approved the amendment as the only step outside of a special session by his state's legislature that would enable New Mexico servicemen to take part in the coming elections. While most conferees favored the amendment, Green objected, saying It discriminated in favor of New Mexicans as against men from other states. Under the bill the federal ballot would be used by servicemen overseas who apply for a state absentee ballot by Sept. 1 but do not receive it by Oct. 1. A minor change made yesterday fixed July 15 instead of Aug. 1 as the date by which state governors must certify that federal ballots will be accepted for counting under their state law.

WASHINGTON, March 7.—(UP) —A Senate agriculture subcommittee scheduled an open session today to hear Jonathan Daniels, a White House aide, reveal information he once refused whether he had sougnt ouster of Harry Slattery as head of ti e Rural Electrification Administration. Daniels, who originally refused to discuss the subject on grounds it would violate his confidential relationship with President Roosevelt, agreed to testify after conferring with the President—and after the committee had threatened him with contempt proceedings. The subcommittee, headed by Sen. Ellison D. Smith, D., S. C., is seeking to learn whether politics and a fourth term for Mr. Roosevelt are involved in the REA. Smith said Daniels would he ask cd: To confirm or deny that he attempted, on three occasions, to get Slattery to resign, once on an offer ot an assignment to go overseas to study postwar water and power projects. To disclose who gave him the authority to propose the assignment. To enumerate the reasons why Slattery’s ouster was being sought. Daniels’ decision to return and answer the questions delayed a test as to whether executive department officials can refuse to testify to a congressional committee without being subjected to contempt action. Many senators felt a decision should be made anyway to govern future committee work.

But devils believe in an intellectual way and remain devils. You must be a convinced partisan and really believe in His teachings and in his wisdom and love. Nothing but all out commitment will get you the joy of life that makes sin look shabby and dirty: For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.—John 3:16.
