Reelsville — the ‘‘gymless'" and “coachless” Putnam county high school basketball team looms as a “dark horse" contender to reach the final game of the Wabash Valley tournament in the Greencastle gymnasium this weekend. The n*et squad, from down Washington township way. is scheduled to clash with Belle Union at 9 o’clock Thursday night We may be "sticking our neck out,” but judging from previous performances against the same outfit, we are giving Reelsville the nod in this tilt. As we recall it, Reelsville has won two decisions from the Jefferson township lads this season. Should Reelsville pull through this game, they will then meet Fillmore, which drew a bye, at 3 oclock Saturday afternoon. If Lady Luck smiles upon the former aggregation, Reelsville would go into the final contest most likely against the Roachdale Hawks. Needless to say, we are picking Rnuchdale to win the tourney and go to Terre Haute for the Valley finals, but strange things happen in Hoosier basketball! We have great admiration for the spirit of the Reelsville boys. Their ex-coach, Elmer Hammond, who by the way is a former Tiger Cub star, went to the Army some time ago. The boys fixed up a hoop in Rex Hammond’s barn where they practice when they cannot get the use of a gym. We are informed that what coaching they get. is done by John Hammond, a senior, and one of the stars of the team. It’s this kind of spirit that made Indiana the outstanding state in basketball years ago
