“The goats are based on expression by farmers of what they can d) it hey get adequate machinery, fertil- , zer anti labor as well as continuation )f present price supports, and in ,ome cases higher prices.” Jones oehoves chat present price jiT most farm products are high enough to encourage maximum proluction, but that higher wartime will make 0 me itx:eases net - jssary. He did r.jt specify commotl-
ities.
The program outlined by Jones would require continuation and posable increases of subsidy payments istlmated to cost the government Approximately $350,000,000 this year through supports at above market
prices.
The 1944 program will remove all Acreage and marketing restrictions .vith the exception of marketing juotas voted by tobacco growers. Approximately $300,000,000 of government aid will be made available to farmers for soil conservation. Jones said 1944 acreage goals were ts encouraging as actual farm production records this year The agriculture department, summing up 1943 crop production, reported the econd largest corn crop on record >,085.625,000 bushels anti a wheat nop of 835.816.000 bushels, slightly oelow last year but neatly 100 000,100 bushels above the 19.12-1941 average. There were bumper crops jf potatoes, peanuts, s y beans, an I
nost vegetables.
The 1944 goals call for two per cent increases in milk and egg production but considerably less meat. They call for only 96 per cent a. many chickens on fauns: 84 per cent as many commercial broilers; 97 per cent as many tutkeys, 83 per cent ar. many hogs; 95 per cent as many cattle and calves, 96 per cent ar many beef cows; and 98 per cent a:
many sheep anti lambs.
Acreage goals for next year, compared with 1943, are: Corn. 100,253,000 acres,- compared with 96,818.00acres thus year; oats. 39 558,000 com pared with 42,654.000; barley, 17, 372.000 compared with 17,893.00 >. s „,„ sorghums. 16.7,0 000 comp.nS with 17,220.000; tame hay, 62,8.18,00 compared with 60.489.000; wheat 67.030.000 compared with 54 ’ 15 ®’°° o ry e for harvest as gram, 2,408.000 compared with 2.875,000; rice. 1,525,000 compared with 1.538,000.
