SUNDAY DINNER IN JANUARY “I'm getting this for the Vitamin B, in it” a girl explained to her friend -he helped herself to a serving of roast pork in a cafeteria. "Why I'd never thought of pork as being especially good for u»!” the friend answered in surprise. “Well, it's one of the best sources of Vitamin B-.—the pep vitamin, you know. Lean pork and bread made from the new enriched flour have lots of Vitamin B, in them.” So remember, when you order a pork roast for Sunday dinner sometime this month, you are not only ordering a hearty deliciou, meat —but you are ordering food that is especially good for your family. Not just for the Sunday dinner alone. The pork roast sandwiches which the children will carry to school m xt day will be giving them a fine supply of thi' important vitamin both in the bread made from enriched flour and the meat. Here's a suggestion for your Sunday dinner menu built around this pork roast: Clear Tomato Soup Toasted Crackers 1’ork I.oin Roast Milk Gravy Browned l‘o<atoea Cinnamon Apples Buttered Spinach Glazed Onions Rolls Relishes (Carrot Strips, Celery, Pickles) Orange Cream Grandmother's Molasses Wafers CINNAMON APPLES Wash, core and pare 4 apples. Place apple -lices in this syrup and boil gently so that they do not fall to pii ces until apples are tender. Remove from syrup, drain and serve cold.
GLAZED ONIONS
Peel 12 small white onions, prick with a fork and cook in boiling salted water for 15 minutes. Drain. Melt 2 tbsp. hotter, add 2 tb»p. sugar and tl • union . and cook 20 minutes over a low heat or until the
onions are brown and glazed. This makes 6 servings. _____ ORANGE CREAM

All thbs doesn't mean tile Navv has deserted its base and lef: it un protected. Without divulging important naval and military informal;": it can be said that w'hile much of the Fleet is out on maneuvers that aren't just practice this tim- '.here ai< plenty of warships lurking near t< ward off attack. And the m:ght> fort that was named in ho:.or of t: * father of General MacArthur no a command of our Far Eastern Force frowns from the heights oveilookin, the harbor entrance at the edge o town. Things were vastly differen here, too, thus season With canceleleaves and ever increasing reinforcements, the soldiers manning the fort made ready to blast invasion attempts from sea or air. Huge Terminal Island sprawl.- ; the harbor and cluttered with dock and warehouses and homes of Japanese fishermen, underwent a chang--also. As soon as war broke out the Jap fishing fleet headed for the open sea. It never got beyond the glist ening, white lighthouse perched at the tip of the breakwater protecting the bay. Maybe that fleet was merely going after another catch of Friday dinners. Maybe it wasn't. Uncle Sam didn't bother to inquire. H> grabbed it quickly and turned it ic-k for an investigation that spread throughout the island and landed nearly five hundred Ja panes, in the prison located there. Large enough for 800 men and 50 women the pi: on was soon so overcrowded that many white prisoners had to be moved to nearby Los Angeles jails to make room for detained Japanese who spent a Christmas quite different from usual. Of course with the annual crop of leave-taking gobs failing to materialize, business in San Pedro fell off considerably this year. But. concerning this, you hear comments onlv and no complaints. Everyone is making the best of altered conditions j

From the crude wagon-type body of the early days, when designers borrowed from horse and buggy experience, to the streamliners of today in which every part of the car is designed for functional beauty, the evolution of automobile styling is disclosed in this parads of Buick models. Buick this month observes the fortieth anniversary of its
first experimental valve-ln-head engine, a major feature throughout th# company's history. The first Buick car was built In 1904. Every fourth year’s model, including the gracefully streamlined 1942 Bedanet, Is shown here. Full speed ahead on arms, aviation engines and tank parts Is now the Buick work order.
