The Cockney raised his battered head and stareo at the body of the dead monkey “Little nipper,” he whispered as tears welled up In his eyes, •TU square it for you and it 1 don't those drums will.” Seated In the steer of a canoe with General Ling resting comfortably amidships. Chang Tat heard the drums, also, as he paddled slowly down the river. The native In the bow was listening intently. Suddenly [he turned. “Tuan! Tuan!” he whbpered excitedly. He pointed Into the darkness. Following the direction of the native’s arm, Chang saw a |l:;nal lire break Into flame high uplon a mountain side. In a moment anptlicr and then another flamed Into kiew as the message was relayed from village to village. TVv'ar! War!” the native shouted started to slide over the side of canoe into tho river. Chang lipped out his revolver. "Keep Jdling!" he ordered In the Malay lect. Sullenly the native resumed paddling. A loud thump on the veranda turned the attention of all them In that direction. “See what it Is!" Prin commanded. Bplllster, Prin and flerbert covered the door with their rifles. Professor Sen stepped forward and cautiously opened the door Impaled upon spears which had been thrust into the porch floor were two grinning skulls! The group stared at

them.

Sen clossd the door. "Well Prin,’’ Iks Professor said calmly, "there's

For each tooth in those skulls you have a minute before they attack.” He was silent for a moment. “If they happen to be the skulls of old men you haven't much time left.” Sweat stood out on Prln’s brow. He tugged at the neckbank of his shirt which had suddenly become too tight. Ballister watched him in disgust. "Come on. Prin,*’ ho said. “Unless the girl tells us where the money is hidden, let’s turn her loose In the jungle.” “Would that bo agreeable to our great humanitarian?’’ Prin said sneeringly to Professor Sen. Sen and Kim Ling exchanged glances. “It would be fast.” Sen snapped his Angers. “Just like that. She’d be better off than we, when they do get here.” “Thank you,” Prin said unctuously. He turned to Kim. ‘‘It's up to you to decide. And do not be misled by the Professor’s observations, because wo who remain here will be quite safe.’’ Prin crossed to a big chest and opened It. “Look.’’ Ballister, Sen and Herbert crowded around the chest. It contained two machine guns and ample ammunition. “Thet’s how Gregory Prin protects his little family," the halfcaste boasted. Ballister was Impressed. ”1 think you've got something there, Prin.” The others turned away but Herbert continued to stare at tbo guns. “Well, Miss Ling, you see you have everything to lose by venturing forth fwtn me jmigle,” Prin went on. “But I won’t press you, my dear. His cards were falling badly. “And tho dear, esteemed General Ling?" he asked. "He Is dead," Chang answered. "You had better break the news to Miss Ling. She Is in her room," Prin suggested. Chang entered Kim's room. “I heard about father,” Kim said tearfully. “He’s alive; he’s hidden on the river bank nearby," Chang whispered. “We’ll pick him up. Get ready to leave Immediately. Where u the money?” ‘‘Hidden down on the float.” "Fine! Hurry please." Chang returned to the group In the living room. “The tribes have this bungalow surrounded from the Jungle side.” Chang told Prin, "but the river bank Is still open. Miss Ling and 1 will leave In one of your launches. I'll take the launch with the gun.” “After the girl bands up the money!” Ballister snarled. “I’m afraid our clever friend has us In a pocket. We’ll have to let him go, money and all so that when the police arrive we will be quite respectable,” Prin said to Ballister. He faced Chang. “Now get out!" “Have you gone crazy, Prin?” Ballister demanded. Prin grinned thinly. (To be veullitticdj

Will Rogers, Marie Dressier and other Hollywoo<l celebrities were buried. Mbs Lombard s b ly was the only jne of the nine recovered to be identified last night. Tentative identification of Mrs. Peters rested on papa's found in a purse. Others, includng same of the 15 officers and enisled men of the army ferry comnand. could be identified imperfectly )y bits of clothing and insignia on uniform buttons. Guards were posted at the wreck luring the night awaiting the return if rescue workers to the peak to recover remains of others who died in

the smash.

Wien mountain climbers arrived it the wreck yesterday almost at the 1,000 foot level, they found only the .ail of the twin-motored ship intact. The word “Skyclub” could be reail on >ne fin. The two motors, broken Toni the plane, lay close together. The fuselage was torn and twisted. Bodies were scattered, some outside, iome inside the wreckage. The body of Miss Lombard lay beleatn one wing, almost buried in the mow. Other bodies outside the plane jvere covered partially by snow. Those who saw the wreck agreed hat all must have died instantly. The plane seemed to have plunged squarely into the side of tho precipice a few hundred feet below the summit. A black smudge from oil and smoke narked the point of impact on the brown rock. Three Civil Aeronautics Authority inspectors went to the wreck Sunday and began their official investigation. They declined to comment on their findings and said they would return today for further study. The trio included Frank Caldwell, chief of the CAA safety bureau, Jack Parshall, Kansas City, and Perry Hodgeden,

Oakland.

Two hundred men were in the party which set out to recover the bodies. The last 10 miles of the 35 mile trip from Las Vegas could be covered only on foot and horseback through rugged country and up trailless mountain.-: so steep climbers sometimes I d to pull themselves up
