THE FASHION SHOP PRESENTS A NEW LINE 1
5wiV<s- ivto
Fans who attend the preliminary tourney of Wabash Valley competition in the Greencastle high acho 1 gym on January 21-22-24, will see u Putnam county tournament. It will also be almost a preview of the local sectional which will be held February 27th with the Tiger Cubs participating in addition to the school which will perform here next week. The seven teams in the Wabas Valley prelim are Reelsville, Bell Union, Roachdale, Fillmore, Bainbridge. Cloverdale and Russellville. According to the schedule, Reelf ville meeta Belle Union at 7 p. m. o Wednesday, January 21. We pen BELLE UNION. Then at 8 o'clock Roachdale and Fillmore tangle. Ou guess is that the ROACHDALL HAWKS will pull this one out of th fire. At !• p. m.. Bambridge takes o Cloverdale. From here it looks lik BAIN BRIDGE although Coach Vern on Cochenour rrray pull an upset with his Clovers. Thursday night, Jan. 22, we look for Belle Union and Roachdale t< nrix with lire HAWKS winning. Ru. sellville is carded to clash with tla winner of game three, which or dope says will be the Pointers froi Bainbridge. This fray should prov a toss-up, but we’ll give tire BEES the nod. There will be no contest Frida night, Jan. 23, as Greencastle is t be host to Jeffersonville. The tilt on Saturday evening w 1 decide what team from this tourne.. center will participate in the fin: round at Terre Haute the followin. weekend to determine the 1942 Wa bash Valley champions. As we s«.i it, Roachdale and Russellville will fight it out and we're pickin . ROACHDALE. Now this is just the way we ha-, doped it, but in Hi rosier basketbal. circles the old dope bucket is kicked around so much that it doesn't mea t a thing. Who knows—maybe Reelsville. Fillmore or Belle Union will b in there fighting it out with either Bainbridge or Cloverdale in that allimportant last game. Due to the fact that most of th'teams are so evenly matched, interest in the tournament will be big : and each session is expected to draw good crowds from out over the county. We also exper t to see Chet Elson, Greencastle coach, in the gym at frequent intervals getting a Iron the Putnam squads with the sectional only a little more than a month off. Mr. Stoner "xpiained that 15 per cent of the money thus raised remains inthe county for local work. President Robertson introduced a representative from The Daily Banner staff who .-.poke of his pleasant remembrances of the late Stuart Hostetler and Len Ware, who were Lions, and Mr. Robertson also presented Al Casse, connected with the Indiana Fire Works company. The roll call of members by Secretary Clan l Hanna was interesting to one who bad not heard a Lions club roll call before. The members, some of them the meekest and mildest men in the world, all respond “Bite ’em!” in plac ■ of the usual “here" or “present,” and they make it sound very fierce indeed. N. te Call reported the success of the Red Cross drive. He said it was met not only by one hundred per cent of thp members but the response from the citizens was indeed splen-
did.
E.-stel Cooper, vocalist, and Eugene Hut bins, pianist, led the men in singing Lions songs. More than a dozen of the ringing melodies were sung vigorously and musically. KOTAin ( M B> < ('uiitluurtl from l*uu«» (Hie) was reflected Mi the announcements of tin construction of the new powder plant in this section, the proposed new training camp in Columbus, and the numerous defense contracts which are being awarded to Indiana, concerns. Indiana with its rail facilities, industries, and farming lands will continue to h ive an increasingly important role in the winning of victory according of Lt. Gov. Dawson. The administration of the Indiana Stale Penal Farm was complimented in its adaptation of its facilities to the lull benefit of the state. Among the guests were the two district governors of Rotary in Indiana Harold Cooper of Maiion, an 1 Donald Coy of Seymour. James Bittles of Greencastle, a member of the governor's clemency commission, was another guest. Entertainment was furnished by the Penal Farm Band, which displayed versatility and training.
