tonight and Thursday. The story relates the adventures 1 of a talented young swing band striving for success. Necessity of concealing their identity after they have become famous, leads to hilarious complications in what has been described as one of the new year's gayest laugh films.

Helen Parrish ami Charles I>nng, the latter a newcomer, are seen in principal romantic roles while a whole host of comic favorites appeal in the supporting cast.

Chnte'au Theatre tonight. It's scintillating collection of talented stars, catchy tunes agd spectacular dance numbers wrapped up in refreshingly different settings. A swell plot, this delightful story is laid in the colorful surroundings of a mythical college in New Mexico where there are ten girls to every boy. The stormy romance between a wilful heiress and an all-American football hero secretly hired as her bodyguard makes up the motif of the plot, with the hero and three gridiron associates accompanying the girl to Pottawatomlne's unique camp, us to see that she keeps out of trouble. Naturally, she falls into it instead of keeping out of it,. SKLEt’TING A Nil \I>E TKKK The beauty and attractiveness of a community is generally in proportion to the number and character of its shade trees. Thus, their planting and care should be looked upon as an important civic function. A healthy, well-formed tree is one of nature's masterpieces anil many cities, recognizing that its trees arc a public asset to be enjoyed by all. have definite regulations for their planting and control, especially nlnng the streets Under proper conditions a tree will live for many years and after it has reached adult size ran be moved only with great difficulty, if at all. Because of their permanent character great care should be used in the selection of those to tic planted. Trees have a life span or life-cycle somewhat similar to that of animals. They come from seed, pass through a sapling stage, reach reproductive maturity and then after a number of years approach old age and senility As a rather general thing the more rapid the growth of the tree the shorter will be its adult life and the more easily it may be broken by winds and heavy snows. The slowgrowing tree, on the other hand, is commonly stronger and usually lives longer. As a tree reaches old age it becomes more susceptible to injuries and diseases. One would recomen I. therefore, that the sturdier varieties be used for planting along streets where permanence and durability are to be desired. Kinds of trees differ greatly when, mature as to their beauty, aRllity to produce shade, size, resistance to wind, density of foliage, amourit of debris such as pieces of hark, leaves and pods which they may shed on the walks and pavements, shape of top and height and character of branch

mg.

Trees also differ considerably in regard to their mot system. The deep-rooted varieties are usually l>etter able to survive drought conditions than are the shallowly rootl'd varieties. Those with shallow roots, like some of the maples, tend to steal the water and needed minerals from the top soil layers to the detriment of the

lawn grass.

One would he careful not to buy a St. Bernard puppy if a lap-dog was what was wanted nor a Shetland pony for a draught horse. For similar reasons one ought to be as discriminating in the choice of a tree to be planted. There is no one kind of tree that is suitable for all places and all conditions. One should try, therefore. to select the kind which will he best for the particular place where it

Is to grow.
