New Albany's smooth-passing, fast-breaking Bulldogs staged a late la :t quarter ,.i ivo to halt the Tiger Ou' : three-game winning streak in a thrill-studded bat'le last evening by a 02-30 count on the local floor. Vcas, Bulldog forward, grabbed (he Tpotlight, hitting two fielders and a free throw accounting for the visito s total of five points in the 4th frame to give his team the:r first lead of the evening while the Cubs wore b mg limite I to a lone free toss and field goal. After Kerchoval had tied the count at 27-27 at the end of the 3rd period. Voss opened up the final Bulll dog drive with a one-handed push ' .shot, then a Iding a charity throw a moment later. Crawford brought the count to 30-28 with a free toss after I which Voss again slipped under for another fielder to bring the score to 32-28. Calloway sank one from the ! field but the visitors withstood a ^ j last desperate Cub attack to emerge | victo: ious. Crawford's one-hander gave the Cubs tho opening lead which they never relinquished until Voss and Co. lock charge in the final eight minutes. York s two fielders, Coffey's | three free throws and one each by j Hammond and Crawford accounted for an 11-7 edge at the first quarter

mark

At the opening of the second frame Crawford tipped in a free throw attempt by Coffey but Byr 1 retaliated with a two-pointer for the Bulldogs. Hammond and York added charity tosses before Kercheval slipped in two fields goals and free throw' in quick order. Conklin substituted for Crawford and hit a onehander foil',wed by Calloway's fielder but Shuler hit for the visitors to b ing the score to 19-16 at the half-

time.

Voss made it 19-18 as the second half got undeiway but successive fielders by York, Calloway, Coffey and Crawford brought the count to 27-18 before Voss again connected. Kercheval sank two free throws as Coffey fouled out being replaced by Bills. Derm's field goal and Shuler's free toss brought the count to 27-25 b. fo.e Kercheval managed to tie the count on one-hander at the end or the 3rd frame. Both teams played clean, harddriving ball, with Kercheval grabbing high point honors for the evening with eleven points followed closely by Voss with nine. Crawford W’as high for the locals with eight points, while York. Calloway, and Coffty ware close behind with aix points each. Tn the p eliminary game the loca; "B squad downed the Roachdale

attraction of

Tony Hinkle Day. The first “jinx.” and the one of longest standing, relates to the Bulldogs themselves. No student on the DePauw campus has ever seen the Tigers triumph over Butler, the Bulldogs having won consistently during the last three years when i the present seniors were all underclassmen. DePauw's last victories over Butler in basketball were scor'd the year athletic relations were esumed in 1936-37, the Tigers 'dging past the Bulldog* by a single naint in both games Since then the ndlanapolis collegians have had

‘.heir own way.

The second "jinx" that confronts the Tigers is the matter of where I he game is being played. So far this reason DePauw has played nine j games, seven at home and two away. The Tigers have won seven | and lost two, winning all seven home games and losing both games hat were played on foreign courts. That a foreign floor is a jinx is attested to by the fact that DePauw defeated James Millikan easly 45-29 on the local floor, but on the HU. nois court lost 26-35 Their only other game away saw the Tigers take a 45-35 drubbing from the University of Iowa. Butler will be the first of four straight conference games
