M. Vreeland Saturday night at the Delta Kappa Gamma initiation dinner held at Lucy Rowland Hall. In developing her subject “Women and Teachers in a Democracy,” Mrs. Vreeland traced the progress of women through the ages, showed their resources, and suggested ways in which women may meet the challenge of our time. In order to assume the obligations of deonocracy, Mrs. Vreeland urged that women everywhere adopt a more objective and realistic attitude toward life, shun controversy and develop mental and physical health embrace an active rather than a passive attitude toward democracy helping to retain its freedom and keeping out subversive elements, apply themselves *to the problems produced by modem science, promote desired legislation especially where it applies to i child labor and kindred problems, | and last of all, promote the spiritual | and non-materialistic side of life. I The dinner followed an initiation j service conducted by Dr. Lilian B. Brownfield, president, and chapter officers, for Mrs. Sidelia Starr Donner, newly pledged honorary member, and Mrs. Estella Frank Hall, active. Guests of the society were Mrs B. F. Handy representing the Federation of Clubs, Mrs. John ft. King representing the Council of Clubs, Mrs. David Houck of the American Association of University Women, and Miss Grace Browning of the Business and Professional Women's Club, On Saturday, December 14.
