community to note the changes which have taken place within the past few days in two of the old landmarks of this vicinity. On Tuesday of this week Mr. and Mrs. Howar I | Wright and two small daughters who , for the past three years have lived | with Mrs. Wright's mother, Mrs. , Maud Smythe Bailey, moved one j mile south of Morton to a farm 1 which they purchased. Mrs. Bailey will make her home with her daugh-
ter and husband indefinitely. Mrs. Bailey has no record of when
her father’s father moved to this spot but it is known that he built the log house which has been the shelter for four generations of the
Smythe family.,
In turning back the pages of time Mrs. Bailey -relates her father Virgil Smythe was born in 1830 on this same old Smythe farm, 110 years ago. The original log house in whicn he was born is still standing and forms part of the present
home. He married Sarah E. Smith In 1860. There were twelve children born on this twenty-eight acre farm and Mrs. Bailey and three brothers are all that now survive. Mr. and Mrs. Smythe lived there until their
deaths.
For the past sixty years Mrs. Bailey has made her home on this fami and her old neighbors will regret that she is leaving the community. The house will be closed and no one will occupy it at this time. It is a coincidence that the Smythe and Jackson families who for forty years have lived immediately across the road from one another should at this same time in 1940 move from their old homesteads ye nia Jackson and her mother th- 1 ■ate Mrs. Ella Jackson lived for nea ly forty years on the old Jackson farm but they had always been residents of this community before moving to this old home place. Vemia Jackson moved last week to Fillmore where she is occupying rooms in Maud Arnold’s residence. The fa m is now tenanted by Mr. and Mrs. Eubaok and three children of
r ?ar Bru n erstown.
Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Stanger were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Walter Pur sell.
Mr. and Mrs. Guy Jackson were Sunday callers in the home of their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Jackson of Marion Township.
