At 13,000 feet, however, the plane lost sight of the balloon behind a cloud bank. In the meantime, an amateur astronomer with a telescope had been able to Identify it as the planet Venus.

SHANGHAI. Nov. 20.—(UP)—A’ train carrying many prominent Japanese and Chinese officials to Nanking for the signing of a treaty between Japan and the Japanese sponsored Wang Wei government has been wrecked it was learned here today. Details were not learned immediately. There were unconfirmed reports that the train had been derailed or blown up. The Shanghai Evening Post and Mercury said it had a telephone report from Soochow, near the scene of the wreck.
