Those present at the meeting were toscoe Daggy, chairman; Philip -futcheson, secretary; Raymond Crosby, Carl Arnold and Harry Mc-

Cabe.

The discussion centered on six points: 1, Soil 0:O3i<m control: 2 Pasture improvement; .I, Maintaining and improving productivity: 4 How can we make each individual farm more self-sufficient?; 5, What is the best thing to do with land, that is unsuited to agriculture; 6. How can we correct soil acidity and get lime on land? I The county general committee of 100 members will meet November 25 and it will have an interesting I program before it.

SAINBRIDGE H. S. STUDENTS HEAR TALK ON HOBBIES The students of Bainbridge High School heard in their assembly period Thursday jmciming, Mr. Cory, a former teacher and poet who travels over the United States and lectures at schools that he visits. Hchose as his subject, "The Value of Hobbies to High School Students.” "Every one should have a hobby,” claims Mr. Corry, “and should develop it to the best of his ability. Any worth while project is a credit to any one. Many shy, bashful boys an.! gills are now holding positions of prominence because they found out what they I ked to do the best,

and developed it into a hobby, which was both of value and enjoyment to them. Even if it be just collecting poems, or postcards, it is something to be proud of and develop further." To show more clearly what he meant, Mr. Cory gave an example of a woman who ooileoted wishbones. Each time she looked at them, she associated certain happy memories and good times with them, served as a memory book to her. Any person who has the ability of playing music should more than ever strive to be perfect in it. Mr. Cory says that not too much emphasis can be placed on the importance of developing a hobby.

I. Because wc holieve tliat RooscvHl is helt(‘r (|iialin(Ml to conduct our foreign nHiairs than is Wendell W illkie. While there is general agreement between the candidates on foreign policy, Roosevelt's position during the past eight years has given him a command of the facts much more complete than that of any private citizen. Moreover, he has demonstrated a sureness of touch in foreign affairs which Willkie may or may not possess. Roosevelt has become a symbol of opposition to dictatorship—the hope of believers in democracy in the Western Hemisphere and throughout the world. At this crucial moment in would bo tragic to tear down this symbol and destroy this hope. Furthermore, world event now crowd upon us. If Roosevelt is re-elected, he con continue to act with confidence, while the election of Willkie might delay until January those measures vital to our national safety. II. Because Boosevell lias demonstrated not only a dynamic interest in promoting liumaii welfare, but also a real capacity to achieve. His Leadership Has: Restored confidence to o fearful people. Brought stability out of banking chaos. Made a more decent life possible for the unemployed. Increased the incomes of the depressed farmers. Regulated the stock exchanges to protect the investors. Made more secure the right to organize and to engage in collective bargaining. Secured the enactment of the Social Security Act to benefit the aged and the unemployed. ^ Set minimum wage and maximum hour standards for underpaid workers. Saved thousands of mortgaged homes and made new homes possible for thousands of families. Increased the use of electricity. Expanded industrial production since 1933 benefitting society as a whole. * Enforced child labor legislation. > Developed national consciousness of the unrealized possibilities in America’s national and social resources. Achieved through government support a creative arts program for all the people, as exemplified in decoration of public buildings and American Index of Design. III. Because, while Willkie has eudosed most of Roosevelt’s foreign and domestic policies, we fear that the Republican Party will not permit him to continue Roosevelt’s program. The record indicates that many influential Republicans have opposed measures which Willkie now endorses. In view of Willkie's lack of experience as a political leader, it is doubtful whether he can persuade his own party to follow his lead.
