INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., Oct. 18 — (UP) A reduction of $1,334,146.13 in the utility bill of Hoosier citizens was made by the Indiana public service commission during the last fiscal year, according to a report issued today by Harold C. Mull, commissioner secretary. Users of electricity received the largest rate reduction, their bill being $912,286.17 less. Mull said. Telephone rates were cut a total of $350,640. mainly in the reduction of the Indiana Bell Telephone company rates. Gas rates were reduced $58,027.09, mostly in cities and towns, Mull said. Water rates were cut a total of $13,192.87. Many of the rate reductions were made voluntarily by the private or public utilities themselves, Mull said. Other reductions were effected after private citizens had petitioned the commission for lower rates. Mull said that since 1933, the commission has ordere.3 or autho”ized utility rate reductions amounting to a saving to consumers of $9,500.000 annually.
