DePauw's Tiger football team will return to its Indiana Conference schedule Saturday playing Evansville College at Evansville. Last week the Old Gold left its Hoosier opposition for a game with Ohio Weslsyan at Delaware, Ohio, losing to the Bishors 3 to 33. DePauw, Ohio Wesleyan and Evansville College are all thiee Methodist schools. DePauw is apparently out of the Indiana Conference race this year by virtue of its surprise defeat at the hands of little Hanover College whose •‘iren man" eleven edged out the Old Gold 7-6 in the first tilt of the season. Coach Neal has beer.*^ drilling his squad hard and hopes to present a vastly improved lineup at Evansville. His starting eleven will probably be composed of Joe Edwards and Bill Allen at end; Jack Randolph j and Glenn Hager at tackle; Brute | Barnes and John Barr at guard; Art j Gardner at center; Bob Holm at j quarterback; Johnny Scott and Ed Snider at halfback, and Max Bartley at fullback. It will be '‘Homecoming" for Bruce Barnes as he is a former Boss? High school star at Evansville. He is one f the few sophomores to break into the Tiger lineup this year and Is being groomed to do all of DePauw's place kicking for fields goals and point after touchdown. The DePauw-Evansville rivarly is of recent date starting in 1928. The two teams have met six times in the I last eleven years DePauw winning, five and one ending in a 7-7 tie. The touchdown scored in this tie game is the only tally ever marked up by an Evansville team against DePauw while the Tigers have amassed a total of 156 points in the six games for an average of 26 points a game. DePauw fans are taking little comfort in past history for Hanover had exactly the same record against the Old Gold having lost all but one tie game in their series with the Tigers. Las'llardia Appoints Lou Gehrig To Job NEW YORK. Oct. 12.—(UP)—Lou Gehrig is through with baseball. The retired “iron horse" of the New York Yankees today was appointed by Mayor F. H. LeGuardia to be a member of the Municipal Parole Commission for a period of

10 years.

“I’m aamned proud of the job,” Gehrig said. "It means that I won’t haVe any more connection with basebaU." Gehrig will take office as one of three members of the parole board handling New York City cases on

January 1.

“I understand that I’ll be sworn into office at the Mayor’s office next Monday," Gehrig said. His salary will be $5,700 a year— in 1938 Gehrig received $39,000 for playing baseball. Gehrig rove, led that he and Mayor

LaGuardia, an ardent baseball fan, has discussed the possibility of such a job for three or four months past. The mayor apparently talked to Lou after he retired on June 21 of this season suffering from a form of paralysis. That day marked the end of Gehrig’s careen as a player—a career of 2,130 consecutive games from June 2, 1925, to April 30th of this

year.

LOCAL MEN WILL PLAY VOLLEY BALL FOR EXERCISE Local men interested in volley ball for a recreational pastime are assured of getting some mild exercise this fall as there have been three teams started and there is a possibility of three more teams forming a local league.

There will not be a practice this week but starting with next Thursday the teams will work out in the old high school gymnasium. There will probably be a meeting of the captains on Tuesday so as to further organize the teams.
