Arthur Pickens injured his hand 1 while putting up hay Friday. Mrs. Clem Douglas who is on the sick list is improving. Bom to Mr. and Mrs. Alva Wilson near Belle Union a daughter Joan, on July 7. Porter Dunkin was injured Sunday on road 43 near Doe Creek when his car got out of control. George Herbert has been on the sick list for the past few days. Master Kyle Staley spent Friday | and Saturday with his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Staley of Eminence. O. V. Smythe left Tuesday on a business trip to Denver, Colo., he expects to be gone for a week. The Cloverdale High School Band will play their regular concert in Cloverdale Saturday .night, July 15th. OBITUARY The hand of him who holds the power of life and death, the destiny of each individual, and even of nations, has come again and removed a darling mother from our midst. Minnie Jones, daughter of Alvin and Winnie Beaman, was born September 2, 1852 and sweetly fell asleep in Jesus July 2, 1939, age 87 years. She was united in marriage to John B. Jones and to this union were | born nine children, four of whom are left to mourn her loss. One daughter, , 'Mr9. Frank Hutson and throe sons, Emory, Jesse and Oscar. Her husband and five children preceding her in death. She also leaves nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, besides a host of other relatives and friends. She was united with the Baptist church when a young girl and lived a true Christian life until the Lord called her home. She was a kind and loving mother and grandmother. Shu carried me under her heart She loved me before I was born, That 1 might live she took God’s hand Through the valley of shadows lorn. She bathed me when I was helpless, Clothed softly my nakedness, She rocked me to rest when weary, Fed me and soothed all distress. She sang to me sweet as an angel, All my needs she could understand. Faithfully nursed me in sickness, Saved me from death’s cold hand She guided my fir.*t feeble footsteps, She laughed with me in my glee, She suffered with me in my sorrows, And taught me to pray at her knee. SIk was loyal when tried as by fire, Stood by me w'hen other friends failed, Loved me and prayed for me ever, In joy or when trouble assailed. She loved me when I was unlovely, Patiently led to manhood’s estate, Triumphantly walked the King’s highway Of earth to heaven’s bright gate. Though 1 should lay down my life for her, Or bring to her all treasurers other I never could pay my great debt I owe To her, my good Christian mother.
