AAA MEETING AT WASHINGTON
Lee Patrick, state crop loan supervisor for the Indiana Agricultural Conservation Committee, will attend the 1939 National AAA Conference to held in Washington. D. C., July 1C. 11, and 12. Farmer suggestions for the 1940 AAA Farm Program will be considered at the national
meeting.
Other members of the Indiana Committee who will attend are L. M. Vogler State Chairman; Virgil Sexson. Purdue Agriculture School Extension member of the state commit-
tee; and Leon Bailey.
On Tuesday five state AAA committeemen. one from each region of the AAA. will participate in a radio program which will be heard during the National Farm and Home Hour. The North Central Region will be represented by Elmer F. Kruse. Chairman of the Ohio Agricultural Conservation Committee, who will point out problems that are typical of the North Central Region and explain what fanners, through the AAA are doing to meet that prob-
lem.

HULLING CONTESTS DRAWS BIG ( ROW!)
A crowd, principally farmers, estimated to number 1500, was present at the team-pulling contest at Phil Adamson’s farm north of Lena. Sunday. The crowd came from Clay. Parke and Putnam counties. It was a fine day for the event, and it w'as made a gala event. Refreshments were served on the grounds and many of the farmers and their families took their basket dinners with

Russell Mapes of the Horace Linx and Company store is spending a vacation in Eastern Ohio and Virginia. Mrs. Robert Kerr of this city spent several days last week with her daughter, Mrs. Lester Royal and family at Toledo. Ohio. Miss Lois Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Smith returned to her home in Greencastle Saturday after spending the past few weeks m Muncie. Mrs. Tillie Stevens of Terre Haute is at the bedside of her son, Wilbur Stevens, who is very ill in the Putnam county hospital. Mr. Stevens underwent an operation Saturday night for acute appendicitis. The Clinton and Madison Towmships Home Economic Clubs will hold, their home coming night for members and families at the Union Chajoel Church Thursday night, July the 13th, each member is to bring cake or ice cream and table service. The old residence on the lot owned by Miss Sarah Hirt at the intersection of Bloomington and Seminary streets, is being dismantled to clear the lot. Miss Hirt having an apartment elsewhere. She does not contemplate erecting another building on the property at this time. The remains of Lemuel Clingenpell. 24 years old, who died Monday at his residence in Terre Haute, will be interred in the Brick Chapel cemetery, Wednesday, following the funeral services at the Harding Avenue Methodist church in Terre Haute, at 10 o’clock, that clay. Mr. Clingenpell is survived by his father, William, and two brothers, Eugene of Lebanon and Sanford of Greencastle. Mrs. A. M. Young returned yesterday afternoon after a ten days visit in Westport. Conn., with her son, Stanley Young and family. Among the places of interest in New York City to which her son took her were the World's Fair and the Columbia broadcasting station, where she witnessed the "Believe It Or Not" program by Robert Ripley in person. , Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Grubb and son, Marion, of near Belle Union entertained dinner guests Sunday July 9, at their home. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. Oscar T un‘'an, who live north of Greencastle, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Rosenbaum of New Richmond, Mr. and Mrs. Asa Duncan and little daughter, Alberta, of Ladoga. Mrs. Mary Grubb and son, Maynard, of Greencastle, and Mr. and Mrs. Royal Harcourt of Indianapolis.

Mrs. Ralph West has been appointd chairman of the Putnam county Roadside Improvement Councils which works in conjunction with the Indiana State Highway Department.
Mrs. Charles Hoste of Attica, mother of Mrs. Cecil Justus, Mrs. Kenneth Justus and Miss Wilhelmina Hoste. all of this city, is a patient in the St. Elizabeth hospital in Lafayette, where she was taken several days ago. following a severe heart attack. Mrs. Hoste is reported slightly improved.
Miss Beatrice Evans, formerly of Greencastle. more recently a teacher in Indianapolis, is critically ill at the Coleman Hospital in that city. Her -nother, Mrs. T. E. Evans, of Green:astle. is with her, and also her sister, Mrs. C. C. Brinson of St. Petersburg, Fla. Miss Evans is a sister >f William P. Evans, an attorney of Indianapolis, also a former resident af Greencastle.
Woodworth Reunion Held On Sunday The first annual Woodworth reunion was held Sunday, July 9th in the beautiful grove on the Earl O'Hair farm just west of the Sommer-
set church.
All of the children and most of the I grandchildren arrived at an early i hour to enjoy the day, at noon an old fashioned picnic dinner was spread beneath the large sugar trees to which all did justice.
