This new railway church will lie no ordinary house of worship. It will lack domes and steeples and church bells and will be located in a tiosement. Work of demolishing the present antiquated station has begun. Simple in appearance and previncial in charj actor it can no longer meet the needs of the fast growing capital which is slowly stretching to the sea. Built in 1872 only two years after the, unity of the Italian State it finally has been obliged to bow to the exigencies of a modern, bustling city. To Be Ready By 1942 The now station, which will be constructed along Uie new Fascist concepts of architecture, will bo completed in time for the 1942 World's Fair. It will not occupy exactly the same site of the present station as authorities intend to enlarge the square in front of the station. It will be the largest and most

modern station in Italy and Fascist say it will be one of the best and most complete on the Continent. It will be four stories high and ci. tain three basnients. It will have 22 main tracks and 12 covered platforms which will be joined by underground pasages. "The new ’’Termini" station will be a minaturc city in Itself. It will contain shops, a restaurant, a cafe, a florist, tourist agencies, barber shop, and a church. Religiously Inclined travelers arriving or departing from Rome will I be able to go into church to say n j few prayers. Sunday excursionists no j longer will be forced to miss mass to catch an early morning train. 'Iliey will be able to enter the basement church and attend Sunday services. A great deal of emphasis will be
placed on the new restaurant and buffet. The city fathers hope to make it one of the principal dining centers of the city, thereby bringing some night life to this corner of Rome. Another feature is the barber shop. There it will be possible to get a shave an I haircut, a halrwave, a shower bath, a shoe shine, and clothing pressed. The maxn floor of the station will contain several large waiting rooms, information offices, tourist agencies, a royal waiting room for important arrivals and numerous shops. The upper Doors will contain offices for railway, post office and militia officials, in the basement will be several baggage rooms, a postoffice and other shops. Another of the basements will contain a special waiting room for solJicrs wdiich prempposes that many soldiers are expected to use the Rome station.
congress rushed action on the critical monetary and relief bills, declared today that the people of the nation would readily understivi 1 the situation if Republicans decided to filibuster Ids monetary powers to death tonight. As the president spoke, the possibility of a senate filibuster appeared to stand as the chief obstacle to congressional enactment of bytli relief and monetary legislation before the midnight deadline. Compromise agreements on both bills were reached by senate and house conferees last night. They went to the house first today for final action. The president’s statement api peared to be an obvious effort to throw the full weight of White House influence against a filibuster in an effort to obtain passage of the two measure.!.
