PERSONAL AND LOCAL NEWS Carey Payne remains seriously ill at the Putnam County hospital. Mrs J. J. Kauble is reported slightly improved at her home in Madison township. Mrs. Ernest Stoner has returned home from McAllen. Texas, where sne visited relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Fred A. Hanks of Bainbridge are the parents of a daughter, Nancy Ellen, born Tuesday morning. Dr. and Mrs. Ernest Wright of Belvidere, III., were here Wednesday to attend the funeral of the former’s mother, Mrs. Mary E. Wright. Miss Mabel Stoner has returned home from Holly Bluff. Miss., where she spent the winter with her brother, Lacy Stoner and family. The Putnam County Com Growjers’ Association will meet the even- ! ing of March 28 in the court house, for their annual business and social session. It will be in the nature of | a pound party. The assembling hour is named as 7:30 o’clock. Miss Katharine Frisz. of Terre . Haute, who was associated with her 1 brother, J. W. Frisz in the manage- [ ment of The Shades hotel and known to many residents of this county in 1 that capacity, died at her home yes-* ■ terday. She was about 70 years old. j Dr. Henry Ostrom, who returned I to his home in this city Sunday from | St. Paul, Minn., where he became ill suddenly several days prior, has improved in health very much. His | daughter, Mrs. Paul L. Benedict, of Crawfordsville, who went to St. Paul because of his illness, also has returned to her home. There will be a Rally Day program for the Sunday School of Mt. Meridian Methodist church, Sunday, April 2. Church school services will begin at 10 a. m., after the Sunday school there will be a speaker. There will be a pitch-in dinner followed by an interesting program in the afternoon. Everyone is invited to come early for Sunday school, dinner and the afternoon program. Barbara Robbins, 8 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Robbins of Fincastle was admitted to the Riley j hospital in Indianapolis earlier this | week. The Robbins girl was first reported ill of infantile paralysis but \ after thorough examinations were made by hospital physicians reports ^ now indicate that the little girl is | seriously ill of infectious arthritis, j which is commonly known as acute i inflammatory rheumatism. The city firemen were called to the Charles Meikel residence on north Jackson street at 12:30 noon, today, where a small blaze had started in the roof next to the chimney. A small amount of water was used in extinguishing it. The telephone call to the fire department was not clear, J the firemen said, it being understood | that the fire was at Charles Marshall’s house on east Walnut street, and the run was made first to that location.

Club Met Recently The West Madison Home Ec. cluo held its regular meeting at the home of Mrs. Sibyl Allen Thursday, Mar. 16th. Twenty-one members answered roll call with an ancient superstition. All joined in repeating creed and singing "A Merry Life.” During business session our president mode an announcement of a new Home Ec club which our club was instrumental in forming. It is called "The Four Leaf Clover Club". Our club also voted to donate our part to help raise the county treasury. Our leaders Mrs. Maybell Layman and Mrs. Hazel Thomas gave very interesting lessons on Leisure and Hobbies.
