JUNEAU. Alaska. F’eb. 13 • UP) Ships and airplanes searched the icy waters of Stephens Passage today for a marine airways pontoon plan':, forced down by a storm with six persons aboard. Veteran pilots said there was on chance in 10 that any of the six survived. The plane, pdoted by Lon Cope, noted for h's rescue flights, was last heard from about noon yesterday wh n 15 miles south otf here. It was making a scheduled flight of 274 miles from Ketchikan. Alaska There were five passengers aboard, all men. Cope radioed the marine airways base h're lhat ice wits forming heavily on his single-cng ned cabin plane and that it was forcing him into the tossing waters of the passage. After that was silence. The coast guard immediately disp.tched the cutter Haida to the scene. Alex Hclden. pilot and agent of Marine Airways, made two unsucc sful searches dur ng the daylight. He continued to fly during the night, in the hi p that the missing plane had icached a beach, or, if it had ridden out the storm, would send up signal f’ res which the planes carry for cm' geney. He saw nothing. The Canadian Pacific steam.'r Princ ss Noiway arrived in Juneau after sp?nindg several hours searching 'he v.cinity of Takue Inlet, j where it was behoved the plane j
