Miss Marilyn Jean Twomey spending two weeks in Anderson the guest of Miss Shirley Ann Tobin. Mrs. J. C. Hearst and daughter, Miss Marion Hearst have moved into their apartment at 307 east Walnut street. Mrs. Hallie Yeager of Coatsville was elected treasurer of the Hendericks County Democratic Women's organization. Mr. and Mrs. Willard E. Umbreit left Thursday to spend the summer at Winona Lake, where Mr. Umbreit will operate the Petrie Band Camp. Judge and Mrs. Charles M. Connor and daughter Catherine of Toledo, Illinois, are here visiting Mrs. Meda Long and family of this city. I. L. Wimmer, of this city, connected with the Indiana Taxpayers Association, will speak to a gathering of taxpayers at Danville, Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Twomey and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Henderson will leave tonight for a two weeks vacation in Miama, Fla. and other points south and east. Mrs. Seaman Rossiter and daughter. Katherine, have returned to the'.r home at Springfield, Mass., after visiting Mrs. G. W. Bence and attending the DePauw centennial Mr. and Mrs. Ben. Riley of this city, have received word of the sud•den illness of the former’s mother, Mrs. A. T. Riley, from heart trouble, at the home of her daughter, wife of Bishop Thomas Nicholson, at Mt. Vernon, Iowa. John F. Cross, of Brazil, was in this city today on a business trip. Mr. Cross is a former resident of Greencastle, in the old Owl Hardware company store, but he left here 38 years ago. However, he keeps fresh his friendships with a number of the Greencastle business men.

BRICK CHAPEL LADIES HAVE FA1KWELL MEETING The ladies of the Brick ^Chapel M. E. church and community served a pitch in supper at the church Wednesday evening June 9th as a fairwell reception for their retiring minister, Rev. Charles Schwartz who has served them so faithfully the past year. He preached his fairwell sermon Sunday morning June 13th and left Monday June 14th for his home ’n Vermont. Rev. Jack Wallace the Brick Chapel minister of ’3. r > and ’36 also was present Sunday and gave a very interesting talk on his work the past year, having been in School at Yale. He came bark to attend the Centennal celebration at DePauw.
PKFSBYTEKIANS RETURN FROM MEETING OF SYNOD
Several residents of the Greencastle community returned home today after attending the annual meeting of the Presbyterian synod of Indiana at Hanover College. Mrs. Frederick W. Beckmeyer of Gary was re-elected president of the Women’s Synodical society at the annual business session held in connection with the Synod. The meeting closed Thursday. The business committee in a final report recommended that the synod, synodical society and youth council meet at Wabash college in Crawfordsville in 1938. Dr. Albert G Parker, Jr., president of Hanover College, asked the continued support of the Synod for Hanover college as the Synod college in an address at the closing session. Thursday morning’ s devotional hour was conducted by the Rev. George Arthur Frantz, pastor of First Presbyterian church of Indianapolis. The morning address on Christian education was given by the Rev. 'll Lowe, pastor of King's Highway Presbyterian church at St. Louis. Mo.
CAGLE FAMILY TO MARK ( LAY COUNTY CENTENNIAL Plans have been completed by members of the Cagle family to celebrate the centennial of the family's location in Clay County at the annual family reunion to be held Sunday, June 20, at the old Cagle homestead, now the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Schopmeyer, half a mile west of Poland. Mrs. Hadley attended Oxford College for Women and was graduated from Purdue university. She has been a teacher in the Clayton High School for the past three years. Mr. Hadley was graduated from DePauw university. The couple left after the ceremony for Denver, Colo., where they will make their home. He is connected with Scribners and Son, publishers. EARTHQUAKE SHOCK
ALTURAS, Calif., June 18.—(UP) —A severe earthquake shock was felt early today by residents of this small Modoc county town in northeastern California. The tremor started at 1:30 A. M. and lasted 30 seconds. No damage was reported.
