Today’s temperature at 10 o'e.lock was 10 degrees lower than the reading at the same time Thursday. Thursday found the mercury bubbling to the 88 degree mark, three

points below the h ghost temperalure of the season of 91 on Wednesday. Remaining in the upper fifties and lower sixties through the night, the mercury got off to a slow start this morning and did not break seventy until about 9 o’clock. A reading of 7.'l degrees was officially marked at 10 o’clock.

With several star performers out with injuries. Coach I. C. Buchheit and two members or the DePauw university track team today left for South Bend for the annual state collegiate track and field championships at Notre Dame. Berry and Neighbors accompanied Coach Buchheit to the Irish oval, where they will seek points for the Tigers. Berry will be entered in fhe high jump and Neighbors the high jump and broad jump. Each of the athletes has been clearing the standaid higher than the six-foot mark and should rack up points in com petition. Neighbors also is expected to place in the broad jump. Hummins, who placed in last year’s state meet in the broad jump, was cut with injuries and unable to make the trip. Mackaway. another point gcttei in 1986, tying for second in the pole vault, was on the cripple list. Heintzbcrger. Oswald and I.yors. consistent point-getters for the Tigers, remained at home to “hit the hooks” in preparation for final examinations.. Indiana university looms as the favorite to recapture the crown won by a Notre Dame team last year that , nosed out the Hoosiers, 67 to 61. Graduation has cut heavily into the I ranks of the 19.'t6 Irish squad, con- | side red the best in the history of the j school. Several records will face a I heavy pounding in tomorrow's com- ! petition. Representatives from the “Little State” meet are being feared , by the Irish and Hoosiero in several ! events.
