As stated in a note addressed to the United Staes government on Dec. 10, 19.16, his majesty's government would be ready to reopen negotiations whenever circumstances warrant the hope that a satisfactory result might be reached.” Chamberlain’s questioners warned that Britaip’s neglect to pay the long overdue debt would result in reprisals. The debate carried a note of alarm that British trade might suffer in a critical period such as the present. Rupert de ai Bere, conservative, asked if Britain would consider offering a temporary settlement to the United States based on a fifty-year plan and Britain's capacity to pay. Chamberlain replied evasively: “I am not prepared to express an opinion at present regarding methods of settlement.”

NEW YORK. April 23.—'UPl — Father Divine, Harlem’s bald little Negro “God," who scuttled out of his downtown “heaven’’ last Tuesday after a man was stabbed in a riot was picked up by police last night in Milford. Conn. The Negro Messiah was found hiding in the cellar of a small house which one of his "faithful angels” turned over to him after he fled into the night. Police want him on a charge of felonious assault. He has been sought in a half dozen states since the riot, in which the little black “God” attacked a process server whoi tried to serve him with a summons from a rebellious follower. The process server, Paul Camora was pummelled by the cult leader’s enraged foMowers. and a frien 1, Harry Green was taken to a hospital with a knife wound in his chest.

Capt. C. F. Douglas of Milfor 1, who made the arrest said he act > I on a tip, apparently from one of the Negro cult leader’s fid'owers in M.lford, where he has one of his numerous "heavens.” The squat, beady-eyed "God” was huddling in a corner of the cellar when Captain Dougins and two other policemen walked in with gu rs drawn. “We weren't taking any chances,' Douglas said. “God” didn’t bother about passing and miracles, however. He licked his lips, held out his hands and said:' “Here I am. I ain t going to hurt nobody.” He toild Douglas he would waive extradition and go to New York. “Peace it’s wonderful.'’ he to'.! detectives who hustled him to jad. Meanwhile the “Heavenly heirarchy” of the one-time Baptist preacher was beginning . to show signs of revolt. The “faithful angels. ' who assured questioners that Father Divine had not fled, but merely nia ie himsetf “invisible,” reportedly suppressed one insurrection today. Father Divine’s No 1 angel "Faithful Mary,’’ who decided shortly after he fled that he was not "God,” but “just a dammed man.” said she would take over his temporal and spiritual ]>owers. “It was revealed to me more than a week ago.’’ she explained, "that Father Divine was going to disappear. I gob that revelation right after he threw me out and si l ipped me of my responsibilities. ”1 was disheartened hut only momentarily. The spirit told me everything would turn out okay that I would not have to leave. Then Father Divine disappeared. That was the fulfillment of the spirt's prophecy." Faithful Mary said she knew this was the signal for her to take over, so she dashed down to the Harlem "Heaven” to establish herscll onhthe throne.’’ TIGERS WIN WK.F.T Coach U. C.
