(From the Files of The Banner 1893) “One of the most successful of the season's social entertainments was the reception given Wednesday afternoon by Mrs. Thomas Abrams at her cozy homo on west Poplar street. One hundred and fifty guests were receive I. Mrs. Abrams was charmingly assisted by the following ladies: In the parlor: Mrs. D. W. Riggs. Mrs. K. D. Elder of Brazil. Mrs. J. T. Allen of Bainbridge, Mrs. A. M. Morris ami Mrs. Alex Lockridge: in the dining loom. Mrs. H. S. Renick, Miss Nell • Hammond, Miss Emma Bickncll, Miss Bessie Grooms; in the back parlor at the chbcolate tables: Mis. George W. Black. Mrs. S. A. Hays, Mrs. Charles Meltzer, Miss Jennie Black. Mrs. E. C. Wilder of Brazil” “ WIm ‘ does a man buy when he buys a farm? This question has
often been asked but not satisfactorily determined. From the latest decisions on the subject it is plain he buys the ground, of course: and all the buildings erected on it. whether they are mentioned or not. He also buys all the fences but not materia' once used, then taken down and laid aside, nor materials purchased for a new fence, unless they are specifically mentioned. He also buys all ad luncts necessary for the farm except Implements and machiney: for instance. if there is a pile of bean poles cut and once used for the purpose, they go with I he farm but if cut and never used, they are the seller’s property unless specified as sold. Standing trees which have fallen down or been blown down go with the ground hut if cut doArn and made into cordwood. they become personal property and to go with the land must he specifically mentioned in the sale.”
