IIOOSIKH IIK.HI.ANDS DAM AS KMM)D CONTKOD I'KO-IKCT From another county comes the suggestion that the present agitation to develop means to chock the flooding of the Ohio valley may result in the restoration to the list of possibilities of the Hoosier Highlands dam project. One of the tributaries of the Wabash river is the Eel river, which is formed at the southwest comer of Putnam county by the confluence of Big Walnut, Mill creek and Deer creek. The Hoosier Highlands dam is on Mill creek, and its construction on the scale first planned for it would impound a vast volume of water which now flows without interruption down into Eel river and the Wabash, thence contributing its share to I floods that menace lands and cities j along the lower Ohio and Mississippi j rivers. The proposition to construct flood , control dams comes from the federal resettlement administration, which has great funds available for such work. To that administration, the cost for the Hoosier Highlands project would be almost trifling, but its

SHARK I’ATItOL STARTED SYDNEY. (UP)—The greatest shark hunt ever attempted, involving the closing of nearly 40 miles of bays with a wall of nets, has started here. The plan is designed to protect the famous surfing beaches of New Sydney. and will cost the New South Wales government $33,750 a year. Two hired trawlers at first will operate within the bays, catching any sharks which may be trapped by the nets. At first the sharks will be killed, taken out to sea and dumped, but later, when four new ships will be available, it is hoped to build a factory to turn the carcasses into liver-oil, fertilizer and leather. The many miles of nets needed, with adequate reserve supplies, must all be made in Australia from home grown cotton. The company which is carrying out the scheme says that besides making the beaches safe for surfbathers. the trawling will help to develop the Australian fishing industry. Surf-bathing life savers have already thanked the government for

Alice Roosevelt Longworth tells how Senators choose a light smoke... considerate of their throats

SNAKE OWNERS POST BOND GETTYSBURG, Pa., (UP) — The town council here acted on the petition of a number of housewives and passed an ordinance providing that any person desiring to harbor snakes,

rodents, skunks “or any dangerous ind loathsome creatures,’ must post r. $500 bond. The action developed from a recent scare in the community when a gift bull snake gave birth to 68 small snakes after arrival. The young reptiles soon overran homes in several blocks. Persons applying for licenses must convince the burgess that the animals or snakes can be kept securely under conditions which will not annoy neighbors. A fine of $25 goes

"I often lunch in the Senate restaurant at the Capitol. Nearly every Senator and Representative there smokes, and the number I see take out a package of Luckies is quite surprising. Perhaps surprising is not the word. Because off and on, ever since 1917, I myself have used Luckies for this sound reason: They really are a light smoke—kind to the throat. It’s simply common sense that these Senators and Representatives, whose voices must meet the continuous strain of public speaking, should also need a cigarette that is considerate of their throats ... a light smoke.*'

wm

In a recent independent survey, an overwhelming majority of lawyers, doctors, lecturers, scientists, etc., who said they smoked cigarettes, expressed their personal preference for a light smoke. Mrs. Longworth’s statement verifies the wisdom of this preference and so do leading artists of radio, stage, screen and opera, whose voices are their fortunes, and who choose Luckies, a light smoke. You, too, can have the throat protection of Luckies—a light smoke, free of certain harsh irritants removed by the exclusive process "It’s loasted”. Luckies are gentle on your throat.
