REOEIYTNO REPORTS ON PHEASANT SEASON
Hundreds of reports from Hoosier sportsmen who bagged cock pheasants during the recent three-day open seasfin are being received by the department of conservation, Virgil M. Simmons, commissioner, said today. The reports indicate that the hunters enjoyed their fir.<*t pheasant season and that many of them took one or more birds. The first 360 reports received from scattered sections of the state, showed that 383 cock birds were taken by hunters and that approximately 2,000 pheasant, bock cocks and hens, were seen. Hundreds of reports received during the past few days have not been tabulated and a final estimate on the number of birds taken and the number seen will not be available for another week. Cards used in making the reports were distributed through county clerks, game wardens and agencies issuing licenses with a request that the information be furnished by the hunters. While the reports will not be made by every hunter who bagged or saw pheasant, enough will bo received to make fairly accurate estimates.

MARTINEZ. Cal., (UP) — In the old days of the golden west, people were lynched for stealing a horse. Now they get ten days for taking a locomotive for a ride. That was the penalty imposed on a machinist's mechanic, who purloined a locomotive, started on a wild ride for the main track but smashed into a second locomotive.

IN MEMORY
BUNTEN—In loving memory of my dear mother, Bertha Lee (Phillips) Bunten, who passed away five years ago this Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1931. Five long years have passed in silence , Since God called you from our home. Day by day we sat and watched you slowly fade away; Yet in our hearts we hoped and prayed That God would let you stay. Peacefully sleeping, resting at last, The world’s weary troubles and trials are past; In silence you suffered, in patience you bore, Till God called you home to suffer no more. Why, oh why should God have called you From a life you lived so true? Filled with hope and patient longing, When days were numbered, you fully knew. As the days and months pass swiftly And their kindly balm to the heart apply, Will I see "God’s plan" more clearly, Or will I still be asking, “Why?” Sadly missed by Leota Belle.

MILWAUKEE (UP)—Members of the Ranson family have agreed not to give rides to any more hitch-hik-ers. Here are the reasons: In 1933 Samuel J. Ranson picked up a man near Waupun. The man then ordered Ranson and his wife out of their automobile and robbed them of the car and $54. Last year Ranson’s son Allen lost his automobile and $10 to a hitchhiker in Florida. His uncle, Fred Ranson, lost his automobile, a load of hats and some cash to a hitchhiker while driving from New York to Milwaukee. Three times was bad enough, but this fall when two youths took an automobile and $9 from Allen’s brother Howard after he had picked
