Tigers Defeat Spartans, 13-7 DePauw came from behind in the last quarter Saturday afternoon at Blackstock field to defeat a husky Manchester football team, 13 to 7 before an Old Gold Day crowd estimated at more than 4,000 excited fans. The Spartans led the Tigers 7-6 at the half. The visitors scored first in the opening period on a 40 yard pass from Banet to Eikenberry which caught the Methodist backfield napping. Banet’s place kick was good for an additional point and Manchester was out in front, 7 to 0. DePauw collected its first touchdown in the second quarter, also on a forward pass. Longshore faded back and heaved the pigskin to Copeland from the 22 yard line. Shiach failed to kick goal and the Tigers trailed by one point. The third quarter was bitterly contested, for the most of the time in midfield with each team punting frequently. The “break” came after the final quarter was well underway. Leiberum attempted to punt but Arnold, Tiger tackle, slipped through the Spartan defense and blocked the ball which was recovered by DePauw on the Spartans' 11 yard line. Coach Gaumy Neal sent in Chuck Kendall, a driving halfback who has been on the hospital list since the first of the season. Bennett picked up five yards on the first play. The Tigers made first down with only inches to go and Bennett plunged across for the winning touchdown. Shiach booted the oval between the uprights and DePauw won 13 to 7.
