Seals Again on Annual Vacation

While mo t n -oit- me preparing for the .summer season, the IVibilof islands arc making ready for the annual influx of the great North American fur seal herd. During the months of June, July and August government agents, who have exclusive control of the sealing industry, will lake about (>0,000 skins. Only the male bulls are killed because the polygamous tendencies of the ‘'bulls” make it possible to kill them without threatening extinction of the herd. The seals migrate down through the Pacific as far south as the latitude of southern California for eight or nine months of the year and then wen™ their way hack to the Pribilofj for th» summer.

OBITUARY George F. Hoffman was born in Munching, Germany, November 14, 1858 and died in this city June 11, 19:;6. He came to the United States June 28 1879. going to the home of his brother. Charles, in Fort Wayne, where he lived for some time. He next located in Newport. Kentucky, where he married Magdalena Martin, May 25, 1884 In 1899 he came to Greencastle to make his permanent home. Mrs. Hoffman died November 22. 190.'!. A daughter, Freda, was born to this marriage. On August 1. 1908. Mr. Hoffman was united in marriage to Meta Braul of Hanover, Germany. His Lutheran Church membersh’p was retained in his native land. He became a naturalized citizen of this country. As a lock and gun smith he was known by most of the residents of this community. He was a painstaking and efficient workman. He is survived by the widow and daughter; a niece Mrs Kd Burg, and a great n’ece. Olga, both of Fort Wayne, a nephew. Julius Moiling ot New York.
