“This new element of difficulty is due to the extraordinary phenomenon of the cinema. Hitherto even with talent and the necessary appearance It mean that actors had to cover considerable ground before they saw any hope of success. “Now unhappily very unhappily a pretty girl of 18 with looks and intelligence is taken into a Him studio ami overnight is made internationally famous. Of course it is terribly seductive to all the other young girls.”

Inside the call a young man is about to ki;* a decidedly pretty young woman. The young man looks up in annoyance over the Interruption “Has the mam feature started yet ’’’ he asks. "No sir." the page boy answers. “You're just in time." The young man settles back in the taxi, and closes the door. “Drive on!" he says. A few minutes later the cub returns. The page boy opens the door and again surprises the young man in the tame attitude of being about to kiss the decidedly pretty your.;; woman "Well,” the young man says, "has tt started?” The page boy blinked. utes"

“Good," says the young man, and he and the young lady get out of the cab. The page boy shakes his head In complete bewilderment This strange occurrence which so mystified the page boy has a perfectly simple explanation. The young man Is Philippe Martin, an actor, gay. handsome, and a little too susceptible to beauty and romance He has been carrying on a mild flirtation with Yvonne, the young wife of the Minister of Jus tice Yvonne enjoys the flirtation, but is nervous. She will accompany him to the cinema only when the picture has stalled and the house is darkened. Philippe is beginning to sigh for the day when he saw a picture at the beginning and stay until the end Philippe buys two tickets but they enter the theatre separately, Yvonne going find, and being escorted alone to her seat. It Is then Philippe's cue to take the reserved log* seat beside her. On this occasion. however, there Is a slight disarrangement of nis plan Yvonne’s •eat is No 68; Philippe has No. 66 He holds hie ticket upside down, and the usherette escorts him to loge seat No 9fi All unconscious of the error, Philippe settles him self comfortably beside a young ladv. mistaking her In the darkness for" Yvonne For a few minutes he gives his attention to the picture, a Hollywood importation Hut nothing can hold Philippe’s attention for long He turns to the girl beside him. “I hate blondes," he says vehemestly The girl draws away from him nervously She is a blonde Ob Lks *<m ««u tiisrs is a rumanUe
